Funkademia
Well finally I've got round to getting a top 10
done for Payney after being asked for the last year, I'm
stretching it though to the fifteen biggest for me over
the years at Funkademia (Fritz has already done the 20).
A bit of a mixture which I couldn't put in order but
they all hold great memories. Maybe I'll get round to
submitting part 2, 3, etc sometime soon!
Top Fifteen:
Double D & Steinski - Lesson 2 (The James Brown Mix)
Awesome early cut up track which was never released for
obvious reasons, all three lessons are winners but this
is the standout featuring the Godfather Of Soul (RIP).
Deee Lite - Groove Is In The Heart (Unreleased Remix)
Alternative edit with a drum intro into vocals, played
this every time I've done Funkademia.
Source Feat Candi Staton - You've Got The Love (Erin's
Bootleg Mix)
Classic - enough said!
Rebirth - Evil Vibrations
As sampled on De La Soul's 'A Roller Skating Jam Named
Saturdays'
Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy (Perfecto Remix)
No trance here from Mr Oakenfold, just a solid remix
with some extra beats.
Playloaded - Primal Scream Vs Jungle Brothers
Share this one with Fritz, he too knows it's awesome
power!
King Bee - Back By Dope Demand / Young MC - Know How
Had to put them together, you couldn't not play these
two in Manchester!
Stevie Wonder - Superstition
The most obvious Stevie track but gets requested every
week and never fails.
Grandmaster Flash - White Lines
Don't do it!
Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight
Sugarhill's finest, the break works everytime.
Gwen McRae - All This Love (That I'm Giving)
Close run between this and Cheryl Lynn 'To Be Real',
Gwen just edges it.
Blondie - Rapture
I even love the rap in the middle!
Jimmy Castor Bunch - It's Just Begun
Relentless funk fuelled workout.
Michael Jackson - Don't Stop Till You Get Enough
Might have gone off the boil after Bad but you can't
knock the early stuff.
Indeep - Last Night A DJ Saved My Life
Absolute crowd pleaser and one of my favourite tracks
ever.
