Saturday
6th December:
Trafford Lovething
Taking
charge week is DJ Trafford Lovething. The pioneering
star of the Mancunian soul-funk scene. Traffords
original Car Wash night at the old Man Alive club in
the late 80's recreated the city's love affair with
disco music and made it credible again.
Amongst
Trafford's other many claims to fame are he once
danced the night away with Diana Ross at NYC's
Studio 54 club, he was a roadie for the Sex Pistols
during their infamous USA tour, a dancer with Sister
Sledge at the Hacienda and recently appeared naked
in the Guardian. Nice. Tonight will be anything but
dull. Enjoy.
Saturday
13th December:
DJ Jon Busstop & Les Croasdaile
Most of the original soul-funk vinyl for the first Funkademia night was purchased from Jons legendary Busstop Records emporium in Chorlton & it is still warming the dancefloor today. Jon was the first ever guest DJ at Funkademia back in the Attic in 1996 & he's been our mixer-in-chief ever since. Not one to blow his own trumpet but we will as he quite possibly the best vinyl mixer in clubland.
This is Les's second outing at Funkademia, his debut gig in September was so good we had to get him back as soon as. Les started his own night in Manchester, Stylus, back in 2003 and has also played at numerous clubs in Manchester and the North West such as Sankeys, The Masque and Electric Chair. His heart lies in disco & funk though, and he does a mean shimmy when DJ'ing…check him out!!
Saturday 20th December - DJ Adam 'Brown Bear' Moss & Good for the Soul
Adam 'Brown Bear' Moss makes his Funkademia debut tonight, originally from Manchester but now residing in Barcelona he is the resident DJ at Maria Mulata there.
He started DJing with Trafford Lovething at the now infamous Car Wash night a good few years ago and has played with some of the worlds biggest DJs incl Roger Sanchez & Louie Vega. As well as DJing Adam also produces/remixes and has had tracks released on MAW records, Hed Kandi and Defected records.
His knowledge of disco and funk is legendary so expect another jumping night.....
